Rail tickets...

So, my train tickets are set to be delivered on the day that I leave "by the end of the day." Yikes! That might not work since I need to be to the airport before noon.  I must admit that I am feeling more than a little bit panicked about this. My kid might be learning how to mail internationally. At least it is giving me something to direct my feelings toward. I am getting more nervous about leaving the closer it gets. We leave on Wednesday!

T-minus 3 days and counting!

Train tickets purchased and hopefully on their way from Illinois. (It seems quite odd to me that the Rail Europe reservation center is in the United States.)  I really hope my tickets get here before I leave.

Hostel is booked for both the beginning and end of the trip.  We are staying in Budapest for both.

Lists written.  Lists for lists written.  I still need to purchase a few things.  I haven't started to pack anything yet.

I am having trouble sleeping because I keep thinking about all the things I might forget to bring and need to get up and write on my list before I forget.

It's almost time!

Less than a week to go....

With less than a week to go, I guess I am feeling more anxious than excited right now.  I don't know what to bring.  I hate flying. I am worried about leaving my kids for so long (and my husband too).  I like everything planned and orderly. I like knowing exactly what is going to happen.  I suppose this will be a "make it or break it" kind of experience for a control freak like me.

Welcome!

Bună! I'm a Anthropology major/Biology minor from EWU.  In less than a month, I will be off to Romania in search of bones and immortality!

A classmate and I will be attending an osteology workshop called the Bioarchaeology of Children in Odorheiu Secuiesc (odor heh joo se kyoo jesk), Central Transylvania. (Cue the vampire jokes.)

Bioarchaeology of Children Workshop

Getting ready to go:

Passport (with unflattering photo) procured. Actually, they print security stuff over the top of it so it isn't so bad.

Vaccinations...DtaP, polio and typhoid done. Boy are my arms sore!  I waited too long to get the rabies series.  (Cue the werewolf jokes.)

Plane ticket purchased after minor asininity. Itinerary July 2nd: Spokane to Minneapolis to Paris to Budapest then Overnight train to Romania and bus to village. August 6th: Bus, Overnight train, Paris, Seattle, Spokane. So many takeoffs and landings.

A happy note...on the way back, I plan to be immortal, so if we crash, I'm all good.

Anyway, I will be keeping track of my journey here including as many photos as I can .

19 days and counting!
