Back in Budapest!

Eight of our group of fifteen left the hostel in Odorheiu at ten forty-five this morning to catch the train to Sighasoara. It's about an hour and a half train ride. It was extremely hot on the walk there with our luggage and the open windows on the train only cooled things off marginally. When we arrived at the train station in Siggy, we paid to store our luggage. We had about eight hours before the train left, so we headed out to find something to eat and do some sight-seeing. We went up the hill to the castle where they claim Dracula was born and found a little cafe and sat on their terrace to eat. I had a cheese pizza and Pepsi. After lunch, we checked out the souvenirs. I did not buy any. A lot of the stuff is the same souvenirs they sell every place else. Magnets, spoons, shot glasses etc. It started to rain, of course. It seems to do that about every three days in Romania and it is not just a sprinkle, but a downpour. Four of us huddled under the canopy of large trees until it stopped. The others went to look at artwork.

Eventually, during a break in the storm, we headed down the hill to find a place to sit down where there was Wi-Fi. We found a cafe and sat there for several hours. The TV was on, so I watched a couple of movies (one in Spanish and one in English) dubbed into Romanian, a show about soccer and the local news.

We headed to the train station to retrieve our luggage at nine-thirty and went out to the tracks to wait for the 22:27 train. It was only eleven minutes late. The train pulled in going quite fast. Everyone scrambles to find their car, because the train is only at the stop for a few minutes and then leaves. They wait for no one. Matt and I were in a car with seats, but the other six were in a sleeper car together. Our car was almost full. It was also very hot and steamy. Yuck. We had about a ten-hour ride and expected to arrive in Budapest around eight on Sunday morning. We have a hostel reservation for a couple of days before we leave on Wednesday. Jill is staying with us.

Our arrival in Budapest was about two hours late. We paid for lockers at the train station and went to find lunch and Wi-Fi. We ate at a Mexican restaurant called Tacos Locos. I just had tortilla chips and nacho cheese. It was okay. We went back to the train station to get our bags and the group split up to go to our hostels. Matt, Jill and I took the metro. Someone who was leaving handed us three tickets, so we did not have to pay for our ride! I will try to take some photos of the escalator at the metro station. It is seriously steep. I will also do some photos of the hostel where we are staying. Nine months of the year, it is a dorm for film academy students. I am exhausted because I could not stay asleep on the train, so I think I need a nap.  Here's the photos...
