Bone Lab: Skeletal Inventory & Analysis

View from the balcony of the bone lab. It's overcast and rainy today.  Even when it is sunny, it often rains in the afternoon.

There is sometimes a yellow cat sleeping on this roof (which I can see from the lab while I am taking bone quizzes). It is not distracting in the least. It was there after our quiz today, but it was raining by the time I took this picture so it was gone.

We have finished with our bone review. We still have bone quizzes twice a week, but we have moved on to more interesting lectures on things such as age estimation. Estimation not determination! Temperance Brennan is wrong!

After morning lecture, we broke up into groups to start analyzing skeletal remains. We are taking inventory of which bones are present and their condition.  We will be estimating age, but not sex. It is difficult to determine sex in pre-pubescent individuals. This is just the first of several burials we will be working with.

This Saturday, we will be visiting churches in Odorheiu Secuiesc as well as the Lost Churches dig site. I am sure I will post tons of photos after that!
